As soon as you arrive you are drawn in. I am truly amazed at ALL the coaches’ expertise. They really take the time to work with each and every student. They teach structure, discipline and integrity. No matter what level you are or how old you are each student is given the same opportunity to EXCEL. Coaches and students constantly encourage each other. One thing that I really appreciate is that the coaches get right in there with the students and not just coach them from the side.
I really appreciate that they offer a well rounded curriculum with training in not only Jiu-Jitsu, but boxing, fitness, striking, and MMA. There is something for everyone.
I have to thank each and every coach that has really impacted Laurynn’s training and dedication.
I recently scheduled a private session with Michio Grubbs to work on an aspect (half guard) of my game. After working on the half guard and integrating it into my overall Jiu Jitsu, I find myself getting more confident at working this technique in a real match. Thanks to Michio and all the instructors at this school my game has sky-rocketed and I realize that I have unlimited potential in this sport. It truly is an honor to train at such a quality school.
The instruction and program at this school is phenomenal which is easily observed in the skill level of the purple and blue belts at this school. If you want a workout come in and roll with a 4 striped white belt; if you want to test your choke defense then come in and roll with a blue belt. And if you want to be humbled come in and roll with any of Excel’s purple belts.
In my opinion that is the sign of a well skilled instructor and staff. The quality of the students is a reflection of the blood and sweat of the people who have trained them. The lead instructor at this school is Michio Grubbs and is one the most knowledgeable, genuine and humble people I know in this profession; Michio is also an active competitor, which is even more impressive.
As they say, every school has its own personality and this school displays a strong team/ family type persona. It’s a school for the curious, the hobbyist, the competitor, the fitness fanatic and even the 40’s plus club. Everyone here shares a passion for the art of jiu jitsu and is always willing to help and teach all new comers. There are no bullies or obsessed pseudo MMA douche-bags, just the real thing, professional combat athletes that know when to turn it on and off.
As a former grunt Corpsman, former law enforcement and current diplomatic security-medic overseas. I take my physical fitness seriously as my livelihood depends on it. I work in a high threat environment that requires my mind and body to be focused, healthy and confident. And training at Excel Jiu Jitsu provides me with the perfect environment to workout, learn new skills and challenge myself every time.
Thank you Excel!
My intent was to get better, build cardio, strength and be able to roll with both my son’s. So off I went training at a different gym than where my son trained. I did that for awhile but I couldn’t get to the level of training that I was happy with. I wanted to be as good as my son. So I talked to him about his gym and joining him with his training. His response was “I dunno it’s kinda rough there” he was right. I was pushed further than I thought I could go. I would go into training thinking, ok don’t embarrass your son today, try to survive. Every session was exhausting, exciting, extremely educational. Every person I’ve met has been extremely polite, humble and caring. I am older than most of the guys I train with, actually I may be the oldest guy at the gym right now. I have these young guys and girls training me, coaching me and pushing me to be better. It’s actually fun to see a group of young men and women setting and exceeding their goals.
So my first reason to train Jiu Jitsu was so I wouldn’t get beat by my son. I still get beat… I didn’t factor into the equation he was going to get better too, now both my sons train. That’s not any better for me either but I’m lasting longer during our rolling sessions now at least; along the way Jiu Jitsu has introduced me to some of the best people I’ve met.
Now I train at Excel Jiu Jitsu for many reasons: I love watching both my boys be amazing men (even though I will pay for their progress), it’s what I love to do most, I enjoy Jiu Jitsu, it’s a great workout, its healthy, it’s a it’s a workout for your mind, body and soul, my best friends and family train at Excel Jiu Jitsu. Training at Excel under these coaches is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Rolling with guys like Charlie, Rey, Bubba, and Gabe make you really take a long look at yourself and makes me want to get better and be as comfortable on the mat as they are. Michio is a great teacher and you can tell with all his students. All his guys are technically sound. Excel Jiu JItsu provides a great training environment where EVERYBODY is super friendly and there to learn and get better. I’m proud to say I’m an Excel Jiu Jitsu guy!
I have trained at dozens of martial arts schools, but I call Excel home because it is the most EGO-FREE and POLITICS-FREE gym I have ever been to. If you want to learn the most-practical self defense system ever created, become a world-class competitor, or reach your fitness goals, Excel will give you all the support you need. The Fitness, Boxing, Yoga, and Judo classes are all excellent as well. You will never get bored here.
Not only is Excel Jiu Jitsu an excellent gym to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but to get in shape as well. I take Professor Michio’s strength and conditioning class every opportunity I get, and I have never been in better shape in my life (and that includes my amateur Thai Boxing career). I highly recommend Excel Jiu Jitsu if you want to learn self-defense, get in shape, or become a world champion.
For adults and kids alike, there’s no better school around whether you’re looking to compete or you just want to get in shape while having fun and making some friends along the way. Come try out a class and you won’t be disappointed!
