I love training at Excel Jiu Jitsu
Article written by Mario Colli, student at Excel Martial Arts Academy
I began studying at Excel Jiu-Jitsu Academy in early 2015, enrolling in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). Growing up in the world of martial arts and holding black belts in the disciplines of Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, and Judo, I have experienced a variety of training and coaching; however nothing has compared to what I have experienced at Excel Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
Friendly Team Atmosphere
Sustaining injuries from previous years, I made the decision to take a break from Judo and venture into other martial arts. A colleague from the Dojo recommended that I look into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). I conducted my researched and reviewed multiple BJJ Academies in North County, and Excel Jiu-Jitsu Academy, owned and managed by a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Professor Michio Grubbs; caught my attention. I went to their academy, and the friendly ambiance and love of the sports that I sensed from students at the dojo made me decide to give the academy a try which I am really glad I did.
From the very beginning of my training there, I was given considerable encouragement and treated with complete camaraderie. Despite the weight and pain of my injuries nearly leading me to quit martial arts altogether, the supportive environment and high skilled professors of Excel motivated me to continue practicing and furthering my studies in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Jiu Jitsu is about efficiency
Now a student of Excel’s BJJ program for over two years, my grappling skills are improving continuously in spite of my injuries, and I have learned to properly use and channel my energy efficiently.
In summary, the Academy is absolutely outstanding, with a clean and spacious training setting for all ages to study in; whether in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, or other fighting styles. Professor Michio Grubbs’ effective style of teaching produces star athletes and champions, and Excel’s overall community fosters a respectful and familial relationship amongst all students and instructors. I’m glad to be a part of the Excel Jiu-Jitsu Academy Team.
